The hit “Watermelon Sugar“, by singer Harry Styles, won on Monday (5) a funk version with DJ Luan Poffo’s remix. The artist, one of the main names in the country’s LGBTQ+ scene, produces songs that mix national and international elements from the Pop, House and EDM scene.
“The idea of transforming Harry Styles ‘hit into a very Brazilian version to become content on TikTok came up as an unpretentious joke. And when I heard the mix of Harry Styles’ vocals, with the sample by Dennis DJ and the funk beat it seemed like it was the perfect fit. At the time, I was with two friends close to me while listening to the production, and when they started dancing the remix excited on the chairs, I felt like I should release it to people to listen online. “
After the video was published in just 20 seconds, the material received over 60,000 views and requests for the full music to be made available on social media.
“We live in a country with a lot of musical wealth, and I fall in love with the Brazilian versions of Brazilian hits, whether it be funk, forró, brega or bossa nova … Social media gave us space, independent artists, to expose our ideas and our way of seeing what is mainstream. And it’s amazing, many Brazilian re-readings are as good as or even better and more danceable than the original versions. The remix is a tribute to all the people who miss dancing and singing intensely at parties and clubs.
