Argentine President Alberto Fernández announced the creation of the Federal Council for the Approach to Feminicides, Travesticides and Transfeminicides, to respond to “extreme violence against women and LGBTI”. The information came from the Gay Times.

“In order to put an end to these aberrations, we need to carry out coordinated strategies between the national government, the provinces and municipalities of Argentina, which help to prevent and identify risk situations and guarantee a state that responds with the necessary agility” – said Fernández on twitter.

With the federal agency, there will be institutional action to prevent, investigate, sanction and provide redress and assistance for this type of offense. The advice came after the death of 19-year-old Úrsula Bahillo, who was stabbed to death by an ex-boyfriend in the city of Rojas, Buenos Aires province, on February 8. Vanessa Carreña, 28, was killed on the 12th stabbed by her ex-husband in front of her children, also in the metropolitan area of the Argentine capital.

Argentine President creates Council to fight femicides and transphobia

Both crimes had great repercussions in Argentina, which led to the creation of the federal council. According to the Minister of Women, Gender and Diversity, Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta, the “case of Ursula is the rule, not the exception”. The judicial system in Argentina, according to Alcorta, does not have a gender perspective, since the victim had denounced the aggressor eighteen times and was still not protected.

“In this case, the enormous failure that the judicial intervention has is seen with indisputable clarity. We are dealing with a case in which a young woman makes 18 complaints against a person who has a history of aggression in past relationships. And the person was absolutely without any measure of restriction on your freedom “, said the minister, in an interview with the Argentine news channel TN.

The minister will be one of the members and coordinators of the council announced by Fernandez, who will also count on the ministries of Security, Justice and Human Rights, the National Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Judiciary and the Legislative Branch.
