Bolivia<\/a>, through its Civil Registry Service (SERECI), recognized on Friday (11) the first same-sex union in the country, after a sentence by a constitutional court in which two men finally obtained authorization to register their civil union, reports the agency ANSA, via Clar\u00edn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The decision was made by LGBTI rights groups and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/p>\n

According to the website P\u00e1gina Sete, the national management of SERECI issued resolution 003\/2020 of December 9, 2020 in which it states “having the registration of the Free Union between David V\u00edctor Aruquipa<\/strong> and Guido \u00c1lvaro Dur\u00e1n<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

The legal battle to achieve recognition as a couple of Perez and Dur\u00e1n began on October 5, 2018, when they appeared before SERECI to initial their union, rejected by the service based on Article 63 of the Constitution which provides that marriage takes place between a woman and a man and that “free or in fact unions are maintained between a woman and a man without legal impediments and will produce the same effects as civil marriage”.<\/p>\n

On February 10 this year, the couple rejected the SERECI decision, arguing that the Bolivian Constitution places international human rights treaties, of which Bolivia is a party, above the text itself.<\/p>\n

On July 3, the 2nd Constitutional Court in La Paz issued a decision that gave them reason to set a precedent for the claims of the LGBTI population in Bolivia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
