The Americans elected two more transsexual Democratic candidates in the election that ended on Tuesday (3). Sarah McBride<\/strong>, 30, became the first trans senator from the state of Delaware – and the country, obtaining 86% of the vote in the first state district for the Senate.<\/p>\n

“We made it. We won the general election. Thank you, thank you, thank you”, McBride tweeted yesterday evening, AFP<\/a> reports. “I hope that today will show an LGBTQ boy that our democracy is big enough for him too”, he added.<\/p>\n

To the north, in Vermont, Taylor Small<\/strong>, 26, became the first transgender (deputy) representative, obtaining 43% of the 41% of votes in her two districts.<\/p>\n

Their victory comes a few years after Democrat Danica Roem<\/strong> became the first openly transgender legislator in the United States. Roem was elected to the Virginia state assembly in 2017.<\/p>\n

The Victory Fund, a political action committee focused on increasing the number of elected LGBTQ officials in the United States, congratulated Small on Twitter, writing: “It Made History!”<\/p>\n

The group also congratulated McBride: in a statement posted on the internet, fund director Annise Parker said McBride’s victory is “a powerful reminder that voters are increasingly rejecting the policy of prejudice in favor of candidates who defend equality “, reported AFP.<\/p>\n
