On the last 25th, the Cura\u00e7ao Tourist Board (CTB)<\/strong> brought together 120 people on a rooftop in Rio de Janeiro to present some elements of its Caribbean identity. The event, titled ‘A Night in Curacao,’ took place in partnership with the Consulate General of the Netherlands<\/strong>, which opened its official residence in the Lagoa neighborhood for the celebration. The experience featured the offering of typical dishes prepared by Chef Konofl\u00f3<\/strong> (who came all the way from Willemstad, the capital of Cura\u00e7ao<\/a>, for the event), original drinks with Cura\u00e7ao Blue, an installation of Cas Abao<\/strong> beach for interaction with the guests, and traditional music.<\/p>\n

“It is a pleasure to host this event dedicated to Cura\u00e7ao. We are all members of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but despite the name, the highest point of the Kingdom is in Cura\u00e7ao. It is Mount Christophel, with an altitude of 370 meters.”<\/em>, commented Niels Veenis<\/strong>, Deputy Consul General in Rio de Janeiro. The diplomat also emphasized the LGBT+ theme, considering that Cura\u00e7ao participated in the Expo LGBT Fair at the Fairmont Hotel in Copacabana. “Diversity is a very important topic for the Netherlands, and reinforcing these values, especially in a country of the Kingdom, is fundamental.”<\/em>, highlighted Veenis.<\/p>\n

“We thank the entire team at the Consulate of the Netherlands for hosting us in Rio de Janeiro. We couldn’t bring our beaches or the 162,000 residents to greet you, but we had to recreate one here and invited Chef Konofl\u00f3 to wonderfully prepare two typical dishes, Bakyou ku Funchi and Karni Stoba Kriyoyo.”<\/em>, cited Andr\u00e9 Rojer<\/strong><\/a>, Regional Manager for South America at the Cura\u00e7ao Tourist Board. The recipes for the traditional dishes (Bakyou ku Funchi – codfish with polenta – and Karni Stoba Kriyoyo – Creole stewed meat) presented were made available to all guests and are accessible this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by representatives from travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, journalists, influencers, Dutch entrepreneurs, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Rio de Janeiro, and the team from the Consulate General. Highlighting the tour operators Abreutur, Sky Team, Milessis, Multidestinos, Orinter, FRT, MH Tours, CVC, and Kangaroo Tours; HURB; Copa Airlines, Avianca, and Gol Linhas A\u00e9reas. From the Cura\u00e7ao team, there were: Jana\u00edna Ara\u00fajo<\/strong>, representative in Brazil, and Marcos Oliveira<\/strong><\/a>, press advisor.<\/p>\n

This was the first official event held between the Cura\u00e7ao Tourist Board and the Consulate General of the Netherlands. The perspective is that both institutions will work together in the future on other initiatives connected to tourism, culture, arts, and heritage.<\/p>\n

Numbers<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the first half of 2022, the Cura\u00e7ao Tourist Board reported that the island had recovered 96% of its pre-pandemic level of international visits. Of this total, more than 5,000 were Brazilians. And according to the organization, the estimated goal for 2022 is to receive 8,000 tourists from Brazil.<\/p>\n
