United Kingdom is present at the 21st Cultural Diversity Fair, in São Paulo

GAY BLOG BR was at the 21st Cultural Fair of Diversity, an official event of Parada SP that took place on June 16, at Largo do Arouche, in São Paulo. We were, in particular, at the United Kingdom stand, considered one of the most welcoming destinations for the LGBTQIA+ public worldwide.

In addition to the United Kingdom, the Cultural Diversity Fair had more than 50 booths with exhibitions, the sale of themed products, snacks, drinks, gogo boys, NGOs and even a service to rectify the names of trans people, free of charge. Entertainment, of course, was not lacking: DJs played their musical sets and a large stage was created for live performances by various artists.

“More Love, Less Hate, Equals Life”

Invited by the British Council through the Plural Program, the English artist Annabel McCourt was present with the artistic intervention “More Love, Less Hate, Equals Life” (Mais amor, menos ódio, igualdade na vida, in free translation for portuguese) at the Hotel Selina (formerly Bourbon).

Before getting to know the work and the artist, we were invited to take a small tour of the main streets of downtown São Paulo, where many stories about the origin of the LGBT+ movement in the city were remembered, from the first clubs to the rights conquered today.

LGBTQIA+ TOURISM IN UNITED KINGDOM

Following the UK’s activities at the event, which clarified doubts and provided information on exchanges, LGBT+ tourism and the exam IELTS, we were informed that London is one of the most receptive cities to the LGBTQIA+ public in the world, with emphasis on the region of Soho, where the main bars and pubs for the segment are concentrated.

According to Visit Britain, another highly esteemed and sought after region is Vauxall, with several nightclubs including Eagle London and XXL, the latter more geared towards “scruff”. For bars and galleries, the East End region should definitely be visited.

Another important accommodation information is that LGBT tourists will also be welcomed at Hazlitt’s Hotel, which maintains a sophisticated atmosphere, in the Travelodge London Vauxall, famous for its simple, functional rooms – and being the closest hotel to Vauxhall’s LGBT scene – and The Town Hall Hotel, located in the East End, which features an imposing Edwardian building with a mix of Scandinavian decor and the award-winning restaurant The Typing Room. In addition to London, other cities known for being LGBT-friendly include Brighton, Manchester and Bristol.
