First Christmas movie images revealed with gay couple – on and off screens

The Entertainment Weekly website revealed, on Friday (30), images of one of the first Christmas movies starring a gay couple, “The Christmas Setup”, from the American cable channel Lifetime. The channel is scheduled to debut on December 12th.

The film stars a real-life couple: Ben Lewis (Arrow, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Blake Lee (Fam, Parks and Recreation). Veteran Fran Drescher (The Nanny star) and Ellen Wong (Glow) are with them.

Written by Michael J. Murray, “The Christmas Setup” tells the story of New York lawyer Hugo (Lewis) who goes to Milwaukee with his best friend Madelyn (Wong) to spend the holidays with his mother Kate (Drescher), who also is in charge of the local Christmas celebrations.

Always the matchmaker, Kate arranges for Hugo to meet Patrick (Lee), Hugo’s friend in high school and secret crush, who recently returned after a successful season in Silicon Valley.

While they enjoy the local holiday festivities together, Hugo and Patrick’s attraction to each other is undeniable and it looks like Kate’s Santa Claus cupid is a hit. But as Hugo receives notice of a big promotion, demanding a move to London, he must decide what is most important to him.

“The Christmas Setup” is produced by Neshama Entertainment in association with MarVista Entertainment and Wishing Floor Films. It is produced by Danielle von Zerneck, Larry Grimaldi, Hannah Pillemer, Fernando Szew, Suzanne Berger, Arnie Zipursky and directed by Pat Mills.

According to the Deadline website, the film is among the 30 new Lifetime vacation features (It’s a Wonderful Lifetime), scheduled to start releasing on October 23 and continue until Christmas.
