The Brazilian version of Queer Eye was confirmed on November 5 by Netflix, during a festival about the streaming platform’s content, called Tudum, according to the website F5. It is set to premiere next year.
Our own “fab five” – as the protagonists of the North-American version are known – had only their first names announced in a video (below). They are: Fred (well-being), Guto (design), Rica (style), Luca (culture) and Yohan (beauty).
Queer Eye premiered in 2018, featuring Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown and Tan France. The reality shows gay men introducing ways in which the makeover of each episode can improve several aspects of their lives, from their wardrobe to their cultural repertoire.
The production was inspired by Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, a hit between 2003 and 2007. At that time, the protagonists were Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Kyan Douglas, Ted Allen and Thom Filicia.
Critics
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the Netflix version scored a 97% approval rate based on 24 reviews and an average score of 7,93 / 10. The website’s critics consensus says that: “Queer Eye adapts for a different era without losing its style, charm, or sense of fun, proving that the show’s formula remains just as sweetly addictive even after a change in location and a new group of hosts.”.
Van Ness
Jonathan Van Ness, one of the stars of the remake, was defined by Vogue Portugal as “the personification of the hashtag #hairgoals, with his silky and shiny hair, always taken care of; who has an active and clear voice in the fight against homophobia, discrimination and prejudice, of which he was a victim; who is gifted with an infectious sense of humor, being able to get a smile from even a frowny face; whose beauty philosophy should be elevated to an universal command — “to me, beauty is about making the relationship you have with yourself easier”.
