Will Smith did not make gay kiss scene for fear of friends

Actor Will Smith gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly (via GQ) and said he refused to stage a kiss with another man in the 1993 film Six Degrees of Separation for fear of what his friends might think. As the scene was important for the continuity of the feature film, it ended up being done by stuntmen.

“It was very immature on my part. I was thinking, ‘What will my friends in Philadelphia think about this?'” – he said Smith – “I was not emotionally stable enough to commit myself artistically to that aspect of the film. This was a valuable lesson for me. Either you do it or you don’t.” – he completed

The scene in question is when a young man named Paul(played by Will Smith) kisses Trent Conway (Anthony Michael Hall), the latter of whom teaches how to trick people into getting money.
