A hacker hacked into a network of penile cages and blackmailed users saying they would be forced to pay a bitcoin fee in order to regain control of them. The information is from the VICE channel.
“Your dick is mine now”, said the hacker to one of the victims, according to an image released by the VX-Underground website.
For those who don’t know, penile cages are used by people from the BDSM community to prevent erections, being a fetish article. It is controlled remotely by Bluetooth using a mobile application and, if the person was using the prop at that time, only the hacker could unlock it, since it is not password protected.
One of the victims, identified only by Robert, said the hacker demanded the payment of 0.02 Bitcoin, the equivalent of $750 (about R$ 4,000.00) to unlock the device.
“Luckily, I wasn’t using [a gaiola peniana] when it happened” – he told VICE in an online chat.
Another victim, identified only as “RJ“, said he also received the message from the hacker.
“I was no longer the owner of the cage” – he said – “So I had no control over it at that moment” – he added.
The Pentest Partners group, from the United Kingdom, had already disclosed in October 2020 that the device was not completely safe and that it could be controlled by hackers, which eventually happened. One of the group’s researchers, Alex Lomas, said that this flaw is important to show that companies should pay more attention to security practices.
“Virtually any company or product is going to have some kind of vulnerability throughout life. Maybe not as serious as this case, but something” – said Lomas in an online chat session.
Qiui, a subsidiary of the Chinese company that produces the Cellmate device, has not commented on the matter.
