Singer Shakira (48) brought her current world tour, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”, to Oracle Park in San Francisco last Sunday (30), closing LGBTQIA+ Pride Month with a symbolic gesture and a speech dedicated to the community. The show gathered over 35,000 people, with fans filling not only the stadium seats but also walls and boats anchored in McCovey Cove.
During the performance, the artist addressed the audience with a speech highlighting values often associated with the fight for LGBTQ+ rights: “I am very happy to celebrate with you on the last day of this meaningful month. To celebrate love, freedom, and the courage of so many who raise their voices every day. The world is much better when we live with love, respect, and freedom with pride”, she said.
In a visual gesture of support, Shakira changed the colors of the light sticks used in her choreography. Traditionally featuring the colors of the Colombian flag, the sticks were adapted to display the colors of the rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride.
The choice of San Francisco also carries historical significance. The city is internationally known for its central role in LGBTQIA+ rights movements. It was there, in 1978, that Gilbert Baker created the first version of the rainbow flag, reinforcing the symbolic relevance of the location for the closing of Pride Month.
The “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour continues across the United States and will soon reach Mexico, where 12 sold-out shows are scheduled. In the first half of 2025, this series of performances made Shakira the highest-grossing artist globally during that period, according to industry data.
