On January 23, civil engineer João Victor Barreto Manzano and hairdresser Alisson Willon Dias Macauba were married in an Umbanda ceremony in Cuiabá after six years of relationship.
Umbanda is one of the few religions that do not discriminate against same-sex marriage, but the union of both is highlighted for having been one of the first public records in the religious in Cuiabá. There was a celebration of mediums who blessed the union in the midst of singing points and under the attention of spiritual guides.
“We are feeling such gratitude for completing six years of relationship this year and being able to accomplish such a feat, which is a homoafeitvo wedding ceremony” – he said Alisson – “A very important fact for us was to be able to do all of this in the religious, within this beautiful religion that welcomed us with so much love with open arms, which is Umbanda” – he continued.
Gay marriage was also significant for the priest Fernando, who has been a spiritual leader for 20 years. “The boys who lived together when they arrived at the Spiritist Center N. S. da Glória two years ago, matured and today they are two mature men who love each other and are ready to share a home with all the difficulties and joys”, he said during the blessing to the newlyweds.
Alisson’s mother, Janaína Pereira Dias, spoke about the wedding: “Taking them to the Umbanda altar was the greatest emotion and sense of victory I felt in life. It was the arrival of the departure of yore. Feeling of mission accomplished, it was the choice of love “– he said.
João Victor’s mother, Marilza Aparecida Barreto Manzano, also highlights the feeling of gratitude: “It was a great emotion for me and my husband to take my son to the altar and give him up for a life together. Seeing our son getting married in an Umbanda center was all very beautiful. May God bless you and the spirits of light always guide them. I have Alisson as my son, I love them very much and I just wish them all the best in their union “.
