Three months after publicly stating that he doesn’t want his physical appearance to be the main attraction of his shows, as he revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Benson Boone (22) returns playfully embracing that image in the music video for “Mr. Electric Blue”, released this Friday (20).
In the video, the singer appears shirtless washing a car, showcasing his physique and performing scenes filled with humor and sensuality. At another moment, he holds an ice cream cone and, looking directly at the camera, licks the dessert suggestively.
The music video is part of the promotion for his second studio album, American Heart, released on the same date. In the video, Benson Boone also appears wearing t-shirts with phrases like “One Hit Wonder” and “Inauthentic”, clearly satirizing the criticism he received early in his career and the public’s expectations regarding his image.
Despite the provocative tone, the scenes are not gratuitous. The chosen aesthetic has a clearly ironic, almost caricatural bent, turning the singer’s own body into an element of visual humor. It’s a witty response to the demands and labels he has faced, including the aesthetic pressure placed on young male artists in today’s pop scene.
