David Robert Joseph Beckham (Leytonstone, 2 May 1975) was a midfielder. His last team was Paris Saint-Germain, from which he announced his retirement at the end of the 2012/2013 season. He was characterized by the precision of his long-distance passes and shots, being a specialist in free kicks and penalties, having scored most of his goals in these ways (65 of his goals were free kicks). Beckham lived one of his best years as a professional in 1999, when he won four titles with Manchester United (Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and European/South American Cup), having decisive participation. At the end of this year, he was second in the Ballon d’Or award, given by the French magazine France Football, and in the FIFA election, the second best in the world (where he also came second in 2001). However, he won the European player of the year award, given by UEFA (being the first European to win the award).
Becks was the first British player to play more than 100 matches in Europe’s premier tournament, the UEFA Champions League. He is also one of the few to achieve such a feat with the English Team shirt, currently being the lineman with the most games played by England, being surpassed only by ex-goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
He is the only English player to be national champion in four different countries (he was champion at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and, finally, at Paris Saint-Germain).
