Seeking the LGBTQIA+ audience, the tenth edition of the Love Noronha Festival has been confirmed for August 18th to 21st. During this period, the archipelago will host a special program featuring eco-friendly tours, diving, a gastronomic circuit, and nighttime parties.
Organized since 2012 by the Metrópole Group, previous editions have welcomed approximately eight thousand tourists per event. However, in 2022, the expectation is that there will be a 40% increase compared to previous years.
“The local business owners and islanders welcome the visitors who are returning to participate in the event, which intentionally takes place in August due to the island’s tropical climate with its warm and crystal-clear waters”, said Maria do Céu, coordinator of Love Noronha
The idea behind Love Noronha is to promote LGBTQIA+ tourism in Brazil, which saw a 30% growth in the economic market in 2021, according to data from the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA). The goal is to prepare the island’s tourism industry to welcome this audience throughout the entire year.
“A well-received tourist returns and recommends, strengthening the network of inclusive tourism”, said Maria do Céu. “Love Noronha is an international event and is expected to attract an audience that values the new and invests in an excellent opportunity for ecological tourism and leisure”, emphasized the organizers.
The itinerary begins on Thursday, August 18th, starting at 8:00 PM, at the open Night Gipsy, at the ‘Cigana do Cajueiro’ Gastrobar, with music provided by DJs Flávio Noronha, Pax and Maca. The venue is owned by entrepreneurs Caco and Rodrigo Valença, who were eager to host this “welcome drink” as they met at the first edition of Love Noronha in 2012. “Caco, a native of the island, and Rodrigo were both part of the festival. They fell in love and formalized their union in the first same-sex marriage on the island”, reveals Maria do Céu.
On Friday morning, August 19th, starting at 8:30 AM, there will be a Hawaiian canoe ride, an activity recommended for testing strength and working out the biceps. The proposal is to experience the navigation of these ancient vessels, providing adventure and the opportunity to admire Fernando de Noronha while observing the spinner dolphins. The expedition departs from Porto’s Beach, passing by Air France, Rugido do Leão, Cachorro Beach, Meio Beach, and Conceição, with stops for swimming and diving. All under the guidance of guides.
From 12:30 PM onwards, the Love Beats float will take place aboard a vessel equipped with a shower, two recreational kayaks, and a waterslide. On the route, there’s an open bar serving beer, sparkling wine, water, and open food, while the atmosphere will be lively with DJs Filipe Guerra (PE), Luan Poffo (SC), and Gabriel Tibery (SP). The sale of access wristbands is in the final batch and costs R$ 500.
At 10:00 PM, there will be the Gera Party at the Centro Cultural Muzenza, featuring a pocket show by the pernambuco singer Romero Ferro. The night will also feature DJs Tekila (Noronha), Maca (Club Metrópole), and Adrienny Causadora (Club Metrópole). The venue is located at Praça Eurico Dutra, 06.
On Saturday, August 20th, right after breakfast, for those who choose to, they can opt to island tour and explore the trails and main beaches, such as Sancho Beach – considered one of the most beautiful in the world – Leão Beach, Atalaia Beach, Conceição Beach, Cacimba do Padre Beach, Meio Beach, Baía dos Porcos, Baia and Porto de Santo Antonio, among other picturesque spots.
Those who prefer can purchase access to boat tours that traverse the waters around Noronha, where you can watch the spinner dolphins and then dive into the clear blue sea, all with the assistance of experienced instructors and tour guides.
From 10:00 PM onwards, there will be the Rebel XX Noronha Edition at Bar do Cachorro, with music provided by DJs Luan Poffo (SC), Filipe Guerra (PE), Pax (Club Metrópole), and Gabriel Tibery (SP). “It’s an incredible energy to hold an event off the mainland, especially when we have a special audience coming from all parts of the world. Noronha, with its charms, faces the sea from the inside, toward Brazil, and the sea from the outside, facing Africa”, said Maria do Céu.
Tourists who have already purchased their tickets or will be on the island during the festival can secure their access wristbands for the parties on the Sympla platform at the following link: sympla.com.br/clubmetropole. Tickets for island residents cost R$ 50.00 (for the nighttime parties) and will be available from July 26th at the Costa Noronha container at Praça Flamboyant.
On Sunday, August 21st, the morning will be free for diving and visits to the beaches or the Marine National Park. In the afternoon, it’s time to head to the airport because it’s time to return and count the months until the 2023 edition.
The Love Noronha program also encourages the local gastronomy of the archipelago. The itinerary includes bars and restaurants such as Cacimba, Varanda, Valdenio, Creperia Euforonha, Bares do Cachorro, Duda Rei, El Perro, Cigana do Cajueiro, and Gelataria Paradiso – which even created an exclusive ice cream called Love Noronha.
