Candidate who associated coronavirus vaccine with “homosexuality” could face five years in jail

According to information from G1, the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP) denounced the candidate for the Municipality of São Simão (SP), Marcelo Frazão de Oliveira (Patriota), for associating the CoronaVac vaccine with “homosexuality”. The politician had an audio and a text published on social media in October this year, saying that he would not let his family be vaccinated saying that doses of the vaccine could make the person “change gender”.

“You will compromise the lives of your children and grandchildren” – he said at the time – “You will cause dangerous syndromes that will destroy your children and grandchildren, including in the sense of fertility, homosexuality (sic). So, if you want the good of your children, do not vaccinate your children (…) the boy can stop being a boy, will become a girl. The girl stops being a girl and becomes a boy, in that line “ – says the message.

Prosecutor William Daniel Inácio said that Frazão’s speech is a clear example of homophobic and transphobic comment and that he will be judged normally, considering that the statements did not come during the election campaign.

“It was not an act practiced during the campaign and we understand that there is no connection with the Electoral Justice in the hypothesis” – said the Promoter, adding that the fact that he uses the term “homosexuality” endorses homophobia for associating sexual orientation with a disease. Since 1990, the word has been replaced by homosexuality, when the World Health Organization (WHO) removed it from the list of mental disorders.
