Mexican actor Polo Morín (31) granted an interview to Attitude and discussed the episode that occurred in 2014 when a hacker threatened to leak a video of him masturbating unless the actor paid. At first, Morín thought it was a hoax, but the criminal leaked the images.
“I was not depressed that there was nothing I could do”, Morin said. “There was no law that could protect me”. At the time, Morín had not yet come out of the closet, and two years later, he was hacked again, but this time it was his email, which included photos of his then-boyfriend.
“It was just a bunch of photos of us traveling. We were in Spain, they hacked my emails and grabbed the photos, and then they invaded my Facebook account and posted them as if I were coming out. Honestly, I wasn’t ready.”, he commented.
The images featured him with fellow actor Lambda García. After the posts, Polo ended up confirming his homosexuality and said at the time: “This was never about hiding things from you. There are parts of my personal life that I think should remain private. So, I wanted to keep it that way”.
After the revelation, he lost around 100,000 followers on his social media accounts. “I was a little hurt, but at the same time, I knew this would happen because Latin America is still very homophobic in many ways. Even today, I receive some comments like ‘Polo Morín would have been a big star if he hadn’t come out’ “.
Furthermore, they started offering various roles of caricatured gay characters, something he considers disrespectful. Despite that, he achieved success worldwide with the series “Who Killed Sara?”, where he plays a gay character, but according to him, this case is different.
