The 44th São Paulo International Film Festival , which will be online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has selected several LGBTQIA+ themed movies for its program. Tickets cost R$ 6,00 and the titles are available on the streaming platform Mostra Play until the next November 4.
Among the films is the Brazilian movie “Valentina“, directed by Cássio Pereira dos Santos, which tells the story of a protagonist of the same name, a 17-year-old that moves to a small city in the state of Minas Gerais with her mother. As a transgender girl, she tries to enroll in school using her new name and also wants to be respected in her identity.
Among others, there are “Welcome to Chechnya”, an American documentary that follows a clandestine group opposed to the local government, that represses the LGBT community; “Cocoon“, a German fiction movie that tells the story of a teenager who is figuring out she is a lesbian; “Days“, a Taiwanese movie that follows the relationship of a young man with a much older one and is one of the most anticipated of the Festival, and “Your Name Engraved Herein“, another Taiwanese movie, based on a true story that tells the hardships of a couple to accept their own homosexuality and fear society.
On Mostra Play, the movies are divided into the Festival’s traditional sections, such as International Perspective, New Directors Competition and Brazil Festival, and are also organized by theme, such as environment, history, award-winning movies, children and adolescent movies, literary adaptations, among many others.
