Actor Chris Pratt, best known for playing Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy and Owen Grandy in Jurassic World, was “cancelled” on the internet after being accused of supporting President Donald Trump and siding with a Christian church opposed to LGBTQIA+ rights. The latter accusation was made by Ellen Page in 2019 and, at the time, Ruffalo denied that it was true.
The controversy started when the TV showrunner Amy Berg posted a picture of the Four Hollywood “Chrises” on Twitter: Hemsworth, Evans, Pine and Pratt, and jokingly said that “One has to go”. What started as a joke ended up going viral and resulting in Pratt being cancelled, not only for his connection to the religious doctrine, but also for remaining silent on the upcoming elections in the United States.
Downey Jr came in his friend’s defense and recalled that Pratt is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, granddaughter of the former American President John Kennedy, and daughter of Arnold, who stands against Trump:
“What a world… The “sinless” are casting stones at my #brother, Chris Pratt… A real #Christian who lives by #principle, has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude (…) If you take issue with Chris… I’ve got a novel idea. Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of #character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness” – said the Iron Man actor on Twitter.
Mark also sided with Chris on Twitter, by stating the following: “You all, Chris Pratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now”
Pratt didn’t attend a fundraiser for Joe Biden, who runs for the presidency of the United States against Donald Trump. Almost all actors from Marvel movies attended the event.
