The actor Wentworth Miller said on Instagram that he will no longer be part of the “Prison Break” cast because he is tired of playing heterosexual characters.

“I’m out. Of PB. Officially. I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry”. – said Miller, who publicly came out in 2013.

The actor Dominic Purcell, who is also part of Prison Break, playing Lincoln Burrows, showed support to his friend’s decision in the comments: “It was fun, mate. What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for your health and your truth. Keep the posts coming… love ya brother.”

Miller starred in the first four seasons, which aired on FOX between 2005 and 2009. There was a fifth season in 2017 and a sixth one is being planned.

Wentworth Earl Miller III was born on June 2nd, 1972, in the city of Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, in England. His family moved to Brooklyn, in New York, when he was one-year-old. In 1995, he traveled to Los Angeles in search of his dream of being an actor and his first role was playing David in the miniseries Dinotopia, on ABC.

Soon after he appeared in the TV show Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, then he scored the role of Michael Scofield in Prison Break, winning him a Golden Globe, in 2005, for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and since then his career took off.

On August 21, 2013, he came out as gay by rejecting an invitation from the Saint-Petersburg International Film Festival, when he presented several criticisms against the government in relation to homosexuals.

“I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly” – he said at the time.
