This year, the 28th São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade, taking place on June 2 on Avenida Paulista, adopts the theme: “Enough of Negligence and Regression in the Legislature – Vote Consciously for LGBT+ Population Rights.” The theme aims to raise awareness within the community to take a more active role in selecting legislative representatives (mayors and councilors) who will represent Brazilian municipalities in this year’s elections.

The São Paulo LGBT Pride Parade Association (APOLGBT-SP) selected this theme to encourage discussions to increase the number of representatives who understand and address the demands of the LGBTQIA+ population, promoting more inclusive laws and commitment to diversity.

“In light of this scenario, it becomes imperative for Congress and legislative houses to adopt a more inclusive, progressive, and emphatic stance, ensuring equality and protection of rights for all people”, states the communication from APOLGBT-SP, which emphasizes the importance of raising awareness and social empathy to progress legislation and combat LGBTphobia.

Currently, legislative houses still face challenges on the LGBTQIA+ rights agenda, as there are groups that oppose these rights and try to stall the advancement of public policies focused on the area.

São Paulo Pride Confirms 23rd Diversity Fair

In addition to the Parade, APOLGBT-SP also announced the hosting of the 23rd LGBT+ Cultural Diversity Fair, which will be held on May 30, coinciding with the Corpus Christi holiday. The event seeks to provide a space for celebration and visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community, preceding the 28th São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade on June 2.
