“In Brazil, where a trans person is murdered every three days, Marilene looks for her daughter, Roberta, a missing trans woman. Without time, she discovers hope for the future”. This is the description made by the official website of the Sundance Film Festival for “Inabitável” (Unliveable), produced by Gatopardo Filmes, the only Brazilian short film selected in this 2021 edition. The film will be available on the festival platform until next Wednesday (03).
Check out the teaser:
The film features Luciana Souza, an actress who participated in the recent national success “Bacurau”. “Inabitável” has had a major impact on the 18 festivals where it has been shown, since its debut in August 2020. The film has won more than 12 awards, including the best actress for Luciana in Gramado and at the Festival Mix Brasil. The actress talks about the film, the awards and the scope of the works within the national cultural context.
“It was a surprise to win these awards, especially at a delicate moment as the one we are experiencing. This is a work of denunciation and that dialogues a lot with current issues. I think that the repercussions that he has been reaching have to do with the current moment of exposing social wounds. This feeling of not belonging is something that I see in many people. This makes us afraid to even clamor for our rights, it is a feeling as if we have no right. I’ve been on this place. There are a lot of women who suffer from the disappearance of loved ones. This is linked to a number of issues of gender, race and social class. So, I tried to observe the groups that discuss and make society look at the problem”, says the actress.
According to a note on the official Sundance website, the film will be available throughout the entire Festival with a pass that is for purchase: “The day and time listed indicate when the viewing window starts. Note: All views can only be seen once. After starting your screening, you will have four hours to complete it. For short films, clicking on the button “Watch the short films program” starts its unique display and the four-hour window for all short films within the program. You can pause the movie and rewind/go forward to other shorts, but you must resume viewing before the four-hour window ends”..
