The Tel Aviv-Yafo LGBTQ+ center is holding a variety of unique winter pride events during Hanukkah throughout the city. For the first time, the center has decided to highlight pride during the winter as well, in addition to the traditional summer pride events.

Among the variety of events that are taking place – an LGBTQ+ art festival and celebration of queer nightlife that includes an LGBTQ+ art fair, drag shows, pole dancing, spoken word, musical performances, various workshops and a wide variety of artist stands. A tango workshop will be taking place for the older members of the LGBTQ+ community. A dedicated Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony for the Trans community. To close off the festival there will be an “Eid al-Banath” celebration, a unique event hosted by local celebrity Chen Amsalem Zagouri, where all of the profits will be donated to the advancement of women in the community through the LGBTQ+ center, with a musical performance by Miri Mesika and the participation of Orna Banai, Echo and more;
The events will take place throughout the city at, among others, the HaBima Theater, Zappa Tel Aviv (Midtown Complex) and the Kuli Alma Bar, during the Hanukkah holiday. Their purpose is to celebrate the work done for the LGBTQ+ community in the city and to offer, among the variety of holiday events, cultural events that put pride at the center throughout the whole year, and not just during pride month.

Meital Lehavi, Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, holder of the LGBTQ+ portfolio: “We came to drive out the darkness, as typically sung during the Hanukkah holiday. We are celebrating with a variety of events, also for the LGBTQ+ community who are exponential in fighting for their basic human rights at this time and are continuing to spread light in the face of the forces of darkness. Tel Aviv-Yafo as a free and liberal city has a significant role in bringing light and guidance to respect the inclination of the heart of every man and woman. I invite the residents of the city to come to the celebrations and spread light together with us”.

Ruby Magen, Director of Tel Aviv-Yafo’s LGBTQ+ center: “We are very happy to work throughout the year to celebrate the proud community. The Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo strengthened and established cultural institutions of the LGBTQ+ community even in times when equal rights were not a consensus and thus it will continue to lead, within Israel. Our cultural events are at the forefront of queer culture and Israeli culture in general. The LGBTQ+ center sees the fight for gender equality as the basis of the LGBTQ+ fight. Without gender equality, there will be no equality for the LGBTQ+ community and in Israeli society in general. We do all this in the form of a big celebration to which everyone is invited”.
