Marcelo Crivella, LGBTphobic bolsonarist of the Universal Church, is arrested in Rio de Janeiro

Marcelo Crivella (Republicans), who held the position of mayor in the city of Rio de Janeiro, was arrested on Tuesday, 22, suspected of running a criminal organization. In the Public Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutors indicated 24 points that link the mayor to the investigation of a “HQ of Tuition Fee” in the City of Rio, where businessmen paid to have access to contracts and to receive amounts that were due by the municipal administration.

The complaint reveals, among many facts, an alleged billionaire money laundering scheme in the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, which had an atypical circulation of almost R $ 6 billion between May 2018 and April 2019.

With Bolsonaro’s support, the bishop tried to reelect himself to the position of mayor and ended up being defeated by Eduardo Paes (Democrats). In a debate during the last candidacy, Crivella went so far as to say that Paes would be arrested and that he intended to make Rio “ the world capital of gay tourism”.

Crivella attacked the LGBT+ community several times during his tenure, also trying to censor a Marvel comic book at the Rio Biennial, 2019, for showing two male characters kissing.
