Medication for children that live with HIV is lacking; the transfer is made by Health Ministery

In Ceará, the medicaments that fight HIV, like Lamivudina, Raltegravir and Etravirina, are in low stock. The Kaletra, made for kids with the virus, is lacking. With that, the users that need to get the medication for 90 days, are getting it only for 30. The information comes from G1.

The Health Secretary of Ceará (SESA) informed, in a note to Verdes Mares System, that the prediction of Lamivudina and Raltegravir’s arrival is December 22nd. Etravina must arrive only in the first fortnight of January 2021. There’s still no prediction for Kaletra’s reposition.

“We are really worried because, without the transfer, the thousand seropositive people that live in the state can lose control of the virus in their organism” – says Vando Oliveira, Coordinator of the National Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS – Ceará (RNP+CE).

The low stock happens in the month of conscientization and fight against AIDS, the Red December. According to RNP’s office, the Federal Government is going against people with HIV‘s rights.

“With the pandemic, the patients are worried about going to get their medications because of infection. If this period is decreased from 90 to 30 days, they need to go monthly to the delivery place” – says the infectologist of São José Hospital (HSJ), Melissa Medeiros.

Government suspends tests for HIV, AIDS and viral hepatitis by SUS

The Ministry of Health published a note explaining that there was a suspension of sample collections for genotyping tests for HIV, AIDS and viral hepatitis by the Unified Health System (SUS). This happened because the contract with the company he carried out expired in November 2019 and, only on October 7 of the year cited, the ministry held a bid to find a new service provider. The winning company did not attach all the documents required by the public notice and, therefore, there was a suspension. On December 8 there will be a new trading session and if the winner goes through the whole bureaucratic process, there is an expectation that the service will return in January.

To lower the losses, the children until 12 years old and pregnant women that live with HIV will continue to have the tests. As for patients living with hepatitis C, they should receive velpatasvir and sofosbuvir, which do not require genotyping.

Wanted by the Isto É report, Professor of Infectology at the Federal University of São Paulo (USP) and a member of the SBI, Paulo Abrão, says that the lack of the exam can “seriously” compromise the health of HIV patients, stating that planning is necessary to avoid discontinuities of services of this type.
