On Twitter, the publicist @nandomktdigital warned about a transphobic post made by the pastor Rodrigo Mocellin. Under the “Miss Goiás is a man” writing on the picture, the religious man wrote the following caption on the Instagram post:“A man is Miss Goiás, but feminists are being silent about this male oppression. Why? Because feminism doesn’t stand for women, it stands for left-wing politics.”
The Miss in question is the 25-year-old model Rayka Vieira, the first trans woman to be selected as Goiás’ representative at Miss Brasil Mundo. In an interview with G1, she talks about already considering herself a winner for having earned this place.
“[Miss] It is about being more than a pretty woman, it is about being a woman who embraces every cause without discrimination, with love and determination, someone who uses her voice for the good, someone who can use her visibility to help many causes.”

WHAT CHARACTERIZES TRANSPHOBIA?
Because it is so ingrained in our society, transphobia is treated with naturalness and is well reinforced by stereotypes, being it any kind of prejudice, aversion or discrimination against transsexual people. Without being limited to physical violence, transphobia is also characterized by psychological violence and disrespect. In the pastor’s case, his statement is considered transphobic for not respecting Miss Goiás’ gender identity, who identifies and sees herself as a woman and who had a transition surgery to adequate herself to her corresponding gender, however, the pastor considers her gender as the one assigned to her at birth. Other common phrases that characterize ingrained transphobia, even when in a non-purposeful way, includes: “you are beautiful and you even look like a woman”, “did you have the surgery?”, “if you hadn’t told me, I would thought that you are a man/woman (in reference to the birth-assigned gender)”, “you will never be a woman, because your genes are XY”, “what is your real name?”.
