Died this Friday morning (23), at the age of 73, the singer and transformist from Rio de Janeiro Jane di Castro, at the age of 73. The cause of death reported by the press was liver cancer.
According to information from the newspaper O DIA, Jane was married for 47 years to Otávio Bonfim and one of the defenders in the fight for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community.
Alongside big names in the gay scene such as Rogéria, Camille K, Leopard Eloin and Brigitte from Búzios, among others, debuted the show Divinas Divas in 2004, which was on display for 10 years. The show recalled the trajectory of transvestites and transformers from Copacabana – a story that can be seen in a documentary of the same name by Leandra Leal.
NOVEL INSPIRATION
Jane is on the air in the replay of TV Globo’s soap opera “The Power of Wanting”. In the story of Glória Perez she is a transformer who, along with the actor Silvero Pereira, performs shows like Elis Miranda, inspired by Jane, reports the newspaper Extra.
During an interview, at the time, Jane was happy to be able to participate in the soap opera and defend LGBTQ+ causes. “My generation led the way, took to the streets. Let’s talk about the prejudice that trans people suffer in a soap opera. This is an event for transsexuals and a very important debate”, he declared.
Also to Extra, Silvero said on Friday that he met Jane at Divinas Divas, and that he asked Glória Perez that the character of the soap opera be inspired by the transformer.
“I immediately told her to go to Jane, because Rogéria already had a lot of space in the media. I had also been enchanted by her singing Edith Piaf, at Teatro Rival. I already had a gigantic desire to get close to her”, told the actor.
The Gay Blog report talked to Jane on the last 5 to set up an interview. She said it was impossible because she was recovering from surgery.
