After two years, the LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade of São Paulo resumed its in-person edition last Sunday, June 19, with institutional support from the City of São Paulo and the Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, by the Proac ICMS incentive law, and international support from the British Council.
The 26th edition of the event, whose theme was “Vote with pride – for a policy it represents”, brought together a total of 19 trios and took more than 4 million people to Avenida Paulista, according to the Association of Pride Parade LGBTQIA+ of São Paulo (APOGLBT).
A 10×15 metre rainbow-coloured UK flag has paved the way for trios, being carried by Visit Britain, British Council and UK Embassy volunteers and accompanied by British artist Annabel McCourt, selected by the British Council Plural ProgramArtists in Residence, to participate in a residency with the aim of developing ideas, experimenting with new practices and creating connections. Annabel had contact with Brazilian culture, artists and LGBT+ activists, with the mediation of Diversa Arte e Cultura, and took some photos during the event, which can be appreciated below.
