“Hogwarts Legacy”, the next Harry Potter game, will allow players to create trans characters, reports Pink News.
The news was reported on Bloomberg by Jason Schreier after he was contacted by several anonymous people associated with the game at WB Games developer Avalanche Studios.
The game will allow players to customize the voice, body type and gender of their characters in the school dormitories. Characters can have a male or female voice, no matter what body type they choose. They will then select ‘witch’ or ‘wizard’ to determine the dormitory in which they will be placed.
Some members of the “Hogwarts Legacy” development team have been pushing for this transinclusive character creation after the explosive comments about trans lives and health by Harry Potter author JK Rowling. They also allegedly pushed for a specific trans character.
The report states that there was resistance from management at first, but that customization has now been added to the game in an effort to be more inclusive.
This new news did not influence players who are concerned about the project due to the association with Rowling, although a FAQ on the game’s website states that it “is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, his extraordinary body of writing is the basis of all projects in the Wizarding World”.
